The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) has launched a comprehensive civic education and awareness campaign in Chitipa District to ensure an informed electorate ahead of the September 16, 2025 elections.

NICE Programmes Officer Lusako Swira said the initiative is designed to bridge the information gap for inmates, who often face limited access to electoral knowledge.

Swira emphasized that the organization’s core mandate is to promote good governance, democracy, and human rights for all citizens, including those in correctional facilities.

Chitipa Prison Station Officer, Lupakisho Mkinga, commended NICE for empowering inmates with crucial electoral information, acknowledging their constitutional right to participate in the democratic process.

Chitipa Prison is one of the voter registration centers designated by the Malawi Electoral Commission, with approximately 100 inmates already registered to vote in the upcoming polls.
