Catherine Nyangulu, a shadow member set to run for Member of Parliament under the UTM ticket for Mzuzu City South East Constituency, distributed K200,000 to chiefs with existing village banks at Masasa in Msongwe yesterday.

This gesture demonstrates her commitment to supporting local initiatives and fostering community development. The amount disbursed was K200,000, provided as a top-up to chiefs who already have village banks in their areas. The initiative is expected to enhance existing financial programs and offer additional support to the communities.

During the event, Nyangulu interacted with the chiefs and emphasized the importance of community development. The chiefs expressed gratitude for Nyangulu’s support and thanked her for her efforts.

Nyangulu said that she is more than committed to helping the communities, not only in her constituency but also beyond, especially during this period when most people are experiencing an economic crisis. “I am committed to empowering our communities through financial inclusion, because when we empower our communities, we empower our nation. As a leader, I believe in creating opportunities that will uplift the lives of our people, especially in rural areas,” she said.

As a prospective Member of Parliament, Nyangulu’s actions suggest a focus on grassroots development and empowering local communities. Her efforts to support village banks indicate a commitment to financial inclusion and community growth.
