Seven Set for Scouting at Chawanangwa Kaonga Bonanza
About seven Under-20 players are expected to be scouted during the Chawanangwa Kaonga Football Festival scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Mzuzu.
Flames forward Chawanangwa Kaonga has injected K2 million into the Under-20 football bonanza, which will feature eight Mzuzu City teams competing in the First Capital Bank (FCB) Under-20 League.
It has been established that during the two-day festival, around seven players will be scouted for Zambian academies in collaboration with the Flames forward.
Kaonga, who recently signed for Zimbabwean giants CAPS United, is using the competition to instil discipline and strengthen community football structures as a way of giving back to the area where he kick-started his football career.
The opening match will see third-placed Chibavi Real Stars face second-placed Mseteka Welding Hammers, followed by a clash between Mzuzu City Hammers Youth and Area 1B Academy. In the afternoon, Vuwa Academy will take on Topik Academy, before Golden Stars round off the day against Young Buffaloes.
In Sunday’s semifinals, the winner between Chibavi Real Stars and Mseteka Welding Hammers will face the winner between Golden Stars and Young Buffaloes, while the other semifinal will pit the winner between Mzuzu City Hammers Youth and Area 1B Academy against the winner between Vuwa Academy and Topik Academy.
