A senior police officer at Zomba Police College has been arrested for allegedly breaking into the institution’s Mess Bar and stealing assorted alcoholic beverages.

The suspect has been identified as Inspector Charles Chafukira, aged 58, hailing from Tobiasi Village, Traditional Authority Lukwa, Kasungu District.

According to a police flash report dated 4 November 2025, Chafukira is accused of committing the theft while serving in his official capacity as a chef in the college’s Catering Section.

Investigators allege that the officer used a duplicate key to gain access to the Mess Bar, where the stolen items were kept.

Police have taken Chafukira into custody and are conducting further inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.

Authorities have indicated that the case will be handled under strict legal procedures to ensure accountability and maintain public trust in the police service.

The arrest has sparked concern among colleagues and the community, raising questions about integrity and security within police institutions.
