Record Breaker: MCP’s Lawrence Chaziya Wins Unopposed in Lilongwe Chilobwe

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has officially declared Lawrence Chakakala Chaziya of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) the winner of the parliamentary seat for Lilongwe Chilobwe Constituency.

Chaziya stood unopposed in the race.

In a statement, MEC Chairperson Anabel Mtalimanja said:
“The Commission wishes to inform the public that only one candidate successfully submitted nomination papers for this constituency within the stipulated period.

According to Malawi’s electoral laws, when there is only one validly nominated candidate, that candidate is declared elected unopposed.

Consequently, MEC will not hold parliamentary elections in Lilongwe Chilobwe Constituency on September 16. Mr. Lawrence Chaziya of the Malawi Congress Party is duly elected and will assume office as per the law.”
