AMEC Calls for Compassionate Giving
The African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) has urged people across the country to embrace a spirit of compassion by supporting the needy and donating to local health facilities.
The appeal came during a recent visit to Karonga District Hospital, where AMEC donated 45 blankets valued at over K1.2 million to the pediatric, female, and male wards.
Gwyneth Kaponda, AMEC’s President of the Women’s Missionary Society for the Northern Region and Tanzania, highlighted that just as Jesus Christ gave His life for humanity, citizens should show compassion by helping those in need.
“As stated in Proverbs 19:17, ‘Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward them for what they have done.’ This means when we show kindness and generosity to those in need, it is as if we are lending to God Himself, and He will repay us for our compassionate actions,” she explained.
Kaponda added that the donation aimed to improve patient comfort and hygiene, noting that many admitted patients lack adequate bedding.
Hestings Kamanga, a Nurse Midwife Technician at Karonga District Hospital, praised the donation as timely, especially with the current cold nights.

“The blankets are very timely because some patients come to the hospital without bedding and sleep in the cold. This gesture will help alleviate those challenges,” Kamanga said.
AMEC, founded in protest against slavery and the dehumanization of African people, is committed to ministering to the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of all people, seeking to save the lost and serve the needy through Christ’s liberating gospel.
