Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Pemphero Puleti in Connection with Murder of MDF Soldier Chiswansangu Nyirongo

qQqqPolice in Dowa have arrested 24-year-old Pemphero Puleti in connection with the murder of Chiswansangu Nyirongo, a 30-year-old soldier from the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) who was based at Mvera Support Battalion.

According to Dowa Police spokesperson Alice Sitima, the incident occurred on the night of 15 June 2025 at Kalazi Village under Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa, at the home of the late Nyirongo.

Sitima explained that on the night of the incident, the deceased was at home with his 27-year-old girlfriend when she suddenly woke up after hearing a strange noise coming from the veranda.

When Nyirongo got up to check, he reportedly encountered an intruder who had entered the house. A struggle ensued between the two, during which the suspect stabbed Nyirongo with a sharp object. Nyirongo later died while receiving medical attention.

Following investigations, police arrested Puleti, who hails from Lufeyo Village under the same Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa. He is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of murder.
