After nearly two months of intensive debate, legislators are set to conclude deliberations on the 2026–2027 national budget.

During the sitting, Members of Parliament approved the K10.987 trillion national budget, passed key monetary and taxation bills into law, and raised various constituency development concerns directed at different ministries.

The House also received a number of ministerial and committee statements, reflecting ongoing oversight and policy engagement.

However, the session was not without challenges. Parliament experienced disruptions including blackouts, absenteeism, late arrivals, and boycotts by opposition legislators from the Malawi Congress Party.

Despite these setbacks, some progress was made, with ministers responding to pressing issues. Notably, Transport and Public Works Minister Jappie Mhango addressed several constituency development questions.

Legislators are expected to reconvene in August for the mid-year budget review session.
