Nomads go third with a win over Ekwendeni Hammers

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers extended their unbeaten record against Ekwendeni Hammers with a 2-1 victory this afternoon at Mzuzu Stadium.

The match started on a higher note with both teams looking for an early goal but goalkeepers from both sides produced excellent performances to deny letting in goals for the match to end goalless in the first half.

Vincent Nyangulu gave the Nomads a lead on 56 minutes in the second half after Ekwendeni Hammers goalkeeper Mica Chiyenda missed the ball in the air and then Nyangulu capitalises on the mistake.

Substitute Francisco Madinga changed the compression of the game and on 66 minutes he crossed inside the box and met Vitumbiko Kumwenda to make it two nil.

Ekwendeni Hammers pulled one back on 70 minutes through a powerful shot by Wongani Lungu to keep the game alive but it wasn’t enough as the match ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

Speaking after the game Coach for Ekwendeni Hammers Elias Chirambo attributed the lose due to complacency.

“It was a good game we played very good football but my boys lacked composure which has costed us the game as you could see that mistake by the goalie gave our opponent an advantage”. He said

Mark Harrison, gaffer for the nomads congratulated his boys for the win for the hard fought victory.

It was a nice game game we played well created alot of chances but am glad we won despite the unplayable pitch we just have to be happy for winning against a formidable opponent”. Said Harrison

During the first half of the match Ekwendeni Hammers goalkeeper Innocent Kamwambi had to be rushed to the hospital after colliding with Vincent Nyangulu in one on one situation.

Vincent Nyangulu was voted in as the man of the match.

As it stands Mighty Mukuru Wanderers has gone third with 32 points while Ekwendeni Hammers maintains sixth position with 25 points.
