The National Theatre Association of Malawi (Southern Region Chapter) has organized a series of fundraising activities including comedy, poetry, drama, and dance to support veteran actor Mussa Pennoh, popularly known as Dimungu in theatre circles. Pennoh has been battling a health condition for the past seven years and now requires surgery costing K18 million.
Pennoh, known for his roles in the Pamajiga radio drama and the Mjangu comedy series, has sought medical attention in various hospitals across the country. Doctors at Blantyre Adventist Hospital have recommended a surgical procedure as the best option to treat his condition.
Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre on Friday, June 13, Resource Mobilisation Coordinator for the initiative, Flora Suya Kasakula, expressed optimism that the required funds will be raised through the scheduled events that will happen on 7th July at Amaryllis hotel in Balantyre.
“We are confident that with support from well-wishers, the corporate world, government, and all lovers of theatre, we will manage to raise the money needed for Mussa to get the medical attention he deserves,” said Suya Kasakula.
She further announced that Vice President Dr. Michael Usi will attend the event and is also part of the cast in the planned drama production.
“We have managed to get the Vice President, Dr. Michael Usi, on board. He is part of this great production we’ve put together,” she added.
Suya Kasakula described Pennoh as a dedicated and passionate actor who has made a significant impact in the industry, noting that his absence has been deeply felt.
