Mtambo Pledges to Tackle Poverty, Champion Peaceful Politics in Chitipa Central
Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Vice President Timothy Mtambo has officially joined the race for Member of Parliament in Chitipa Central Constituency, vowing to eradicate poverty and bring tangible development to the area.
Mtambo made the declaration on Wednesday upon submitting his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), becoming the final aspirant to complete the nomination process in the constituency.
Addressing a gathering of supporters and MEC officials, Mtambo stressed the urgent need for transformative leadership rooted in action, not promises.
“Our people have suffered for too long. If elected, I will confront poverty head-on and ensure development reaches every corner of Chitipa Central,” he said.

He also called for a peaceful and issue-based campaign period, urging all candidates and their followers to reject violence and focus on solutions.
“Elections should not divide us. Let’s campaign with ideas—not insults or intimidation,” Mtambo appealed.
Mtambo enters a competitive race that includes Kumbuhaji Simwinga of the People’s Party, Peter Makelele Mbukwa of UTM, Fukumele Mkumbwa of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and independent candidate Fiskani Nyondo.
