Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi has condemned the act of some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) followers who threatened the National Publication Limited (NPL) journalists to delete a Facebook news update that they post on their page.
According to MISA Malawi chairperson, Golden Matonga intimidating and forcing journalists to delete the history stories that have been posted is a huge affront to media freedom and the right to know in a Democratic country.
“Intimidation of journalists and forced deletion of stories are a huge affront to media freedom and right to know and such behavior has no place in a democracy that birthed party politics.”
Matonga continues to say it is more concerning that such evil actions are happening at a time of Democracy.
“It is even more concerning that such barbaric actions are happening at a time Malawians are eager to know what is happening in respective political parties for them to make informed choices during the 2025 election.”
However, the MISA Malawi chairperson says this will not let them down but they will render their services in the interest of the public, and creating an atmosphere of animosity for journalists covering events and activities in the of 2025 elections is a criminal and disservice to the nation.
