The Malawi Writers Union (MAWU) has urged book authors in the country to produce content that aligns with the demands of the digital era.
MAWU President Shadreck Chikoti made the call in Blantyre on Friday during a book fair ceremony held at the Museum in Chichiri.
“The Malawi Writers Union is celebrating 30 years of existence as we reflect on Malawi’s literary journey — looking at democracy and literature,” said Chikoti.
He noted that the emergence of digital technologies such as the internet offers great opportunities for writers to publish and share their work globally, fostering wider interaction and collaboration.
Chikoti also encouraged the public to embrace a reading culture, emphasizing that reading helps people understand social and economic trends in a positive way.
In his remarks, Bishop Silvester Chabuka, one of the country’s prominent authors, commended MAWU for organizing the book fair, saying it provides an important platform for writers to showcase their works and engage with readers.
Bishop Chabuka has authored ten books, including The Great Calling, Doctrine Questions and Answers, 19 Hours in Prison, Innocent Prisoner, Why Marriages Fail, 17 Reasons, Thy Kingdom Come, and Confession Bed, among others.
