Man Gets 14years For Defiling a 12-Year-Old Girl

The First Grade Magistrate court in Mzuzu on May 04, 2023 convicted and sentenced a 36 year old man, Zondiwe Nkhambule to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 12-year-old girl.

The court through state prosecutor Inspector Kelvin Kamanga, heard that the convict, on December 24, 2022 at around 19:00 hours defiled the girl at Jolowale village in Mzimba district where she was celebrating Christmas Eve with her friends.

Kamanga further told the court that, the convict enticed the girl with K200.00. He then took her to a distant place where he defiled her while closing her mouth to stop the girl from screaming.

When the convict heard people coming closer to where they where, he escaped while the victim shouted for help. People came and took the girl to her Uncle where she narrated the whole story.

Thereafter the case was reported to police whose investigations led to the arrest ofNkhambule.

Appearing before court, the convict pleaded not guilty to the charge which prompted the state to parade six witnesses to prove the case and was convicted accordingly.

In mitigation, the convict asked the court’s leniency saying that he’s sick and also the breadwinner to his family.

In his submission, Prosecutor Kamanga prayed for a stiffer punishment saying that such behaviours are uncalled for.

Passing the sentence, First Grade Magistrate Robert Makaika concurred with the state’s submission and slapped Nkhambule to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.
