MACRA donates content studio equipment to MUBAS

The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has on Thursday morning donated digital content equipment to one of the Public Universities, which offers media and Communication programmes, The Malawi University of Business and Applied Studies (MUBAS) formerly The Polytechnic.

The studio equipment which worthy K400 Million include Cameras, Computers, Cement Server, Studio Sound Proof and all studio accessories.
Speaking during the hand-over Ceremony in Blantyre at the University Campus, Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority Director General, Daud Suleman the equipment donated will shape the future of the digital economy.
“The Content production that we are donating here is worthy K400, Million and this is the future of the digital economy. As a Regulatory Authority, we are in process of discussing with Facebook, Google and other Social Media Platforms with the aim of monetizing the content created in Malawi,” said Suleman.

Taking his turn, the Board Director of the Regulatory Authority, Alekeni Menyani urged the broadcasters in the country to air 60% of local content.
“We noted that there was a gap in terms of production of local content, it is against this background that we earmarked MUBAS and the University of Malawi (CHANCO) as pilot institutions to establish content studios across the country.
“We hope that the equipment will go along way in improving local content production and the training of our media and communication students in the country” he said.
The vice chancellor of MUBAS Associate Professor Nancy Chitera stated how the equipment will assist the university to achieve its strategic goal of providing quality education to every Malawian.

“The equipment will help our students gain hands on experience and access to quality training which will ensure a professionally trained sector” she said.
MACRA added that as an Authority, they are planning on establishing content studios across the country to ensure that everyone has access to quality equipment for content production as we move towards a digital economy.
