Kalindo Challenges Government on Fertilizer Availability
Political activist Bon Kalindo has publicly urged the government under President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to be transparent about the country’s fertilizer stock for the Affordable Input Programme (AIP).
Kalindo claims that the government has no fertilizers in stock and that the fertilizer intended for the 2024/2025 farming season is actually allocated to two companies, Paramount Holdings and Export, whose owners refuse to release it without cash payment.
Kalindo has challenged the government to prove him wrong by transporting two trucks loaded with fertilizer to Chitipa or Kasiya in Lilongwe, accompanied by journalists and the Malawi First crew. He made these statements in an audio clip circulating on social media platforms.
Kalindo also accused the Malawi Police Service (MPS) of unprofessional conduct in Machinga, where innocent women and a village chief were arrested.
He criticized the police for taking the arrested individuals to Liwonde and Zomba, stating that the intention was to instill fear in them.
In a bold statement, Kalindo dared the police to include him on the list of senior DPP officials to be arrested, saying, “Add me on the list… so that I close my mouth at Chichiri or Maula prison, but leaving me outside, I will continue to speak nothing but the truth.”
Additionally, Kalindo addressed UTM leader Madam Mary Chilima, urging her to take over the party’s leadership by October 17, 2024, to preserve Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s legacy.
Failure to do so, he warned, would result in the party being sold to the highest bidder, the MCP.
