HFPCWU,gears up to lobby support from stakeholders/government to motivate the youths

In a bit to reduce involvement of youths on different malpractices in the country, Hotels Food Processing and Catering Workers Union(HFPCWU)has celebrated International Youths Day with a mentorship note towards youths on Saturday,in Blantyre.

Speaking during the commemoration President of HFPCWU Kelvin Chifunda eruded that our country had demonstrations and a lot of youths were largely engaged hence he referred it to a bad motivation of the youths at large.

He said “Youths are the most marginalized people globally ,they are used and usually dumped after being engaged, it is therefore a high time for the country to set different opportunities for the youths,because youths are the leaders of Today not Tomorrow”.

Chifunda further pledged to approach the government to map a better way on how best youths can be motivated and prioritized in country’s developmental works and get personal benefits including youth loan access and decent employment opportunities as the citizens.

He added “the essence of green skills can be expressed through team associations and this include skills for future and greener jobs which need to be heighten through revising importance of utilizing younger people,for instance contribution of green transition for longer period of time,as the elderly may serve offices less”.

In her words,Youth Chairperson for HFPCWU, Tamanda Malinki,lamented that youths are lowerly paid in different working institutions,a situation she described as worrisome, among others.

“Youths globally are facing continuous challenges in occupational settings, as some are asked to sleep with their boss for employment opportunities, or if they are employed they are given less packages, hope we a lobbying for changes,government should intervene” Said Malinki.

The day is celebrated on 12 August globally on annual basis ,and Malawi through United Nations joined the world in commemoration of International Youths Daytime under the theme of “Green skills for youths:Towards sustainable world”.
