Four die in Rumphi road accident
Four people have died in a road accident which happened on Tuesday evening of November 7, 2023 in Rumphi District.
The accident which happened at Namiashi in Chiweta Hills along Mzuzu-Karonga road involved a driver Khumbo Kachingwe aged 46 who was driving a motor vehicle registration number CZ 6772/CZ 4632 Scania tanker loaded with petrol and diesel from Mzuzu direction heading towards Karonga with three passengers on board.
As he was descending at Namiashi Hills, he failed to negotiate a corner and lost control of the vehicle as a result it went off the verge where it overturned several times and rested.
Police and other people within the area have managed to remove the four bodies including the driver who were trapped in the vehicle which is extensively damaged and the bodies are now being kept at Rumphi District Hospital Mortuary.
Police in Rumphi would like to inform the general public to check with Rumphi District Hospital if their relatives are missing.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and warn the general public to use recommended means of transport whenever they are traveling.
