Microfinance institution FINCA has partnered with solar energy provider Vitalite to enhance access to clean and affordable energy, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Speaking during the $2 million partnership signing ceremony held Friday in Blantyre, FINCA’s Marketing Manager, Takondwa Chirwa, said the initiative builds on the Clean Energy Loan product launched in October last year.

“Our aim with this initiative is rooted in a strong commitment to saving lives, protecting the environment, and combating climate change. This aligns with our mission to transform lives through innovative financial solutions,” Chirwa said.

She added that although gas had gained popularity for cooking earlier in 2024, the new partnership will promote broader adoption of solar-powered appliances, including stoves, refrigerators, and irrigation kits—now more affordable and accessible to households.

Vitalite’s Customer Service Manager, Yamikani Mawanda, expressed the company’s readiness to serve customers efficiently. He revealed that 14 service stations have already been established across Malawi’s Northern and Southern regions.

“Customers can now access loans from FINCA to purchase our products at any of our 14 branches in Karonga, Chitipa, Mzuzu, Zomba, Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mangochi, and other locations,” said Mawanda.

Through this partnership, FINCA aims to provide inclusive, customer-friendly financing to make clean energy products affordable for all Malawians.
