A group calling itself Chitipa Concerned Citizens held a peaceful demonstration on friday morning, presenting a petition to the District Council over delays in completing the Chitipa Stadium project.

Speaking after delivering the petition, group leader Samson Sibale said the demonstration was aimed at demanding accountability on the long-stalled stadium construction.

“We are here to submit a petition to our District Commissioner regarding the delays in completing the stadium project. We were initially told it would be completed within 90 days, but to date, the project remains unfinished,” Sibale said.

He added that the group has given the Council a seven-day ultimatum to respond to their concerns.

“We’ve given them seven days to act. We’ll be back on Friday for feedback. As citizens, we spend a lot of money travelling to Karonga to attend matches. We need our own stadium completed as soon as possible,” he emphasized.

The District Commissioner was unavailable at the time of the petition delivery. A senior council official received the document on behalf of the Council.
