Chakwera Urges Karonga Youth to Trust His Development Agenda
President Lazarus Chakwera has called on the youth in Karonga to have confidence in his government’s dedication to protecting their interests and creating opportunities for them.
Speaking during a whistle-stop tour at Pusi, Chakwera stressed that young people are at the heart of Malawi’s socio-economic transformation agenda and should feel valued in their workplaces. He pointed to the youthful energy of his running mate, Vitumbiko Mumba, as a key strength in delivering tangible results.
Highlighting some of his administration’s achievements in Karonga, Chakwera cited the rehabilitation of the Lufirya Irrigation Scheme, which has boosted rice production and improved farmers’ livelihoods, as well as the abolition of the quota system, which previously disadvantaged students from the northern region. He pledged even more development initiatives if re-elected.

Mungasurwa Mwambande, aspiring Member of Parliament for Karonga Songwe Constituency, commended the president for these projects, mentioning the construction of bridges on feeder roads in Ighembe and the expansion of irrigation schemes as clear examples of progress.
Mwambande vowed to work hand-in-hand with Chakwera to deliver additional infrastructure and agricultural projects, urging voters to support the president in the September 16 elections for continued development in Karonga.
