Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences ( Mubas) has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Oxygen Alliance, a health consortium that promotes investments in health care equipments on Friday, in Blantyre.
According to top officials in the agreement, The MoU will provide an opportunity for MUBAS Biomedical engineering students to undergo internship at Oxygen Alliance where they will be equipped with technical skills in medical equipment repairing and maintenance and Oxygen Alliance will provide visiting lecturers to MUBAS to impart practical knowledge to students.
Mubas Vice Chancellor ,Associate Professor Nancy Chitera expressed her gratitude towards signing of the MOU indicating that it will enhance knowledge coordinations between the industry and the universities in Africa.
Chitera further said MUBAS is aiming at becoming one of best centers of excellence in knowledge generation and the MOU will assist Mubas students to come up with technical skills that can help to solve problems in the provision of health care to our nation.

And the Oxygen Alliance Director Phoebe Khagame said the Alliance was born during the Covid-19 pandemic to address the gaps that existed in the health sector, more especially in the
provision of oxygen concentrators.
Taking his turn, the academic lead Oxygen Alliance, Gerald Douglas lamented that a lot of medical equipments are left wasted even if they just develop minor faults.
“Some equipments are idle for up to five years without any repair , yet the faults are just minor. I hope the MOU will address those challenges as MUBAS will be training students who will be able to solve such problems instead of waiting for donors to buy new equipments,”Said Douglas.

Oxygen Alliance seeks to develop partnerships with a number of African universities to address health care challenges in African continent.
