Journalists drilled in Business Reporting by RBM
The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) organized a two-day workshop for journalists in the northern region on capacity building related to business reporting on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
The workshop attracted about 30 journalists from various media stations across the northern region, with the majority (11) from Police FM Radio. The training was officially opened and closed by Mr. Stanley Mphande, the RBM Director for Mzuzu Branch.
In his remarks, Mphande thanked all the participants for actively taking part during all presentations.
Inspector Paul Tembo from Police FM expressed gratitude to the RBM management for allowing a bigger number of participants from the Malawi Police Service, where they have recently introduced a radio station as another public engagement platform within the Public Relations branch.
On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, NR Commissioner, the head of Police FM, and all participating reporters from Police FM, Tembo conveyed gratefulness for the gesture portrayed by the RBM for providing this training.
Tembo said, “we don’t take this for granted, especially since similar trainings have been lined up for other regions, following the same ratio of participants.”
Mr. Joseph Mwale, the President of Nyika Media Club, also expressed happiness for the timely training, emphasizing that it has made a significant difference. He further urged the Central Bank for more such important engagements with the media.
The training covered an overview of the RBM Act, monetary policy, monetary policy formulation, financial markets, and business reporting.
Facilitators from the Reserve Bank and veteran business reporter Taonga Tsabola shared insights on business reporting.
