PMRA Urges Herbal Companies to Follow Rules, Regulations & Procedures When Treating Clients

Pharmacy and Medicine Regulatory Authority (PMRA) has urged the companies that manufacturers Herbals to follow rules and regulations when giving treatment to their clients.

Speaking in Lilongwe Chairperson for Pharmacy and Medicine Regulator Authority Dr John Mponda said such companies should make sure that they are following the rules, regulations and procedures that were set by the Ministry of Health to ensure the health of their clients.

Mponda said that such companies should speak the truth by speaking exactly what their medicine treat .

The meeting involved MACRA , Media Houses, companies, manufacture herbals, traditional doctors and the Pharmacy and Medicine Regulator Authority and was aimed at addressing different stakeholders following the report from World Health Organization (WHO) which said 8 people out of 10 use herbals without doctors consultations.

Daudi Sulemani who is the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority chairperson advised the media on the goodness of reporting true information concerning herbals.

Sulemani said the media should make sure that every published information about the herbals , must be clear without a threatening message and free from opinion.

Different media houses broadcast messages about herbals which can give threats that people may not go to seek medical treatment but switch to herbals.
