Police Officer nabbed for rape
Police in Nsanje have arrested a 29 year-old police officer James Luciano on suspicion that he raped a 17-year-old girl.
This happened during night of April 03,2023 at Marka Police Unit.
It is reported that the victim was detained for the offense of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace during day time.
During night time at about 2200hrs the Officer in-charge for Marka police unit Assistant superintendent Mirrium Makombe heard the victim crying at the charge office and that prompted her to inform her neighbours to find out what was transpiring.
Upon interviewing her she disclosed that she had been raped by a police officer. Immediately identification parade was done and the rank was identified.
Luciano is expected to appear in court soon to answer a case of rape contrary to section 132 of the penal code.
He hails from Zipangani village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje District.
