UNILIA student nabbed for attempted suicide

Mzuzu Police Station has arrested MacNever Binya Chinyama 22, who is a student at University of Livingstonia, for attempted suicide using a knife.

Reports indicate that this occurred on March 20, 2023 around 15:00hours at University of Livingstonia Kaning’ina campus within Mzuzu City.

According to the Dean of Students at the said university, the suspect is a first year student at the institution propounded to study Bachelors Degree in Agri-business Management. However, during students registration process, it was observed that the suspect was not qualified to pursue bachelors degree at the institution.

The college authorities therefore gave the suspect due consideration by redirecting him to study certificate in Business Administration a decision which frustrated him.

Chinyama therefore decided to kill himself using a knife in front of his fellow students.

The police rescue team rushed to the scene after being tipped and managed to apprehend the suspect and detained him.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway and the suspect will appear before court soon to answer charges of attempted suicide.

Police advise members of the general public to seek counsel for issues troubling their minds other than resorting to decisions that may result being in conflict with the law.

Chinyama hails from Mpeta village T/A Kafuzira in Nkhotakota district.
