Police recovered 63 died bodies in Blantyre

Police in the south West Division has confirmed that they have recovered 63 dead bodies in Blantyre due to cyclone Freddy which has hit hard in the southern part of Malawi.

According to the statement released on monday march 13,2023 says 10 people are children under the age of 12 years and the other 41 people are adults.

The letter has continue to say the death toll might rise as the Malawi police rescue team team is still on ground to evacuate and rescue the victims of cyclone Freddy.

Chilobwe township has register a highest number of deaths as 36 people has died, and some areas in Blantyre like Manase, Chigumula, Machinjiri, Ndirande and Chileka are some parts that has registered death in Blantyre district.

Districts in the southern region has started experiencing the Cyclone Freddy on Sunday afternoon after department of climate change and metrological services announced that the Cyclone Freddy will hit some parts of southern region.

Yesterday the ministry of Education has suspended classes in 10 district in the southern region for two days due to cyclone Freddy.

This is the second time Malawi has been hit by cyclone after being hit last year by cyclone Iddai and cyclone Gombe.
