FJA mourns dedicated sports journalist Chimango Chipeta
The Football Journalists Association (FJA) has mourned the death of sports journalist Chimango Chipeta, describing him as a hardworking and dedicated member whose contribution to sports journalism will be remembered.
Chipeta, who was a member of FJA until his death, was laid to rest on Thursday, 29 October 2026, at Chafisi Village in Embangweni, Mzimba District, following his death on Tuesday, 27 October, after a short illness.

FJA president Dedrich Friedrich said the association had lost a committed sports reporter who served the profession with dedication.
Friedrich said Chipeta’s death was a significant loss to the sports journalism fraternity, where his passion for reporting and commitment to his work had earned him a place among fellow journalists.
The association joins the wider media fraternity in mourning Chipeta, whose passing has left colleagues and friends grieving the loss of a fellow professional.
Beyond his involvement in sports journalism, Chipeta was a long-serving member of Nyika Media Club and worked with the Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) as the Bureau Supervisor for MIJ FM Mzuzu.

Representatives of FJA, the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter, Nyika Media Club and MIJ were among those who gathered to pay their last respects during his burial.
His death leaves a void in Malawi’s media industry, particularly among sports journalists who shared his passion for the profession.
May his soul rest in peace.
