Former Malawi top-flight footballer Collen Nkhulambe has taken a new direction in sport, moving from football to become a full-time fitness trainer for FLC Netball Team, based in Mzuzu.

Nkhulambe started his football career with Mzuzu United before moving to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. He was later loaned to Silver Strikers before ending his football career with Mzuzu City Hammers.

He is now using his experience in football fitness and conditioning to help FLC netball players improve their strength, speed, endurance and overall physical performance.

Speaking about his new role, Nkhulambe said the move has allowed him to remain active in sport while sharing the experience he gained from football.

“Football gave me a strong foundation in fitness and conditioning. I am now using that experience to help netball players improve their physical performance.”

FLC has participated in competitions including the FMB National Netball League and the Mukuru Under-21 Regional Tournament, giving Nkhulambe an opportunity to work with players in competitive environments.

Nkhulambe said working with netball players has also been a learning experience.

“Netball is different from football, but fitness remains very important. I am learning the demands of the game while helping the players to become stronger, faster and more competitive.”

His transition from football to netball fitness training adds another interesting chapter to his sporting journey, while his work with FLC continues to contribute to the development of netball in Mzuzu and the northern region.
