Vice President Jane Ansah Leads Drive to Expand Access to Palliative Care Through Ndimoyo Charity Golf Event

Efforts to improve palliative healthcare in Malawi received a major boost after Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah SC JA (Rtd) officially inaugurated the 2026 Ndimoyo Palliative Care Trust Golf Tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club.
The charity event marks the beginning of a nationwide fundraising campaign designed to generate K80 million for the purchase of medicines and medical equipment needed to care for people living with chronic and life-limiting illnesses.
Organisers say the resources raised will help strengthen the Trust’s ability to deliver essential palliative care services while responding to the growing demand for specialised treatment across the country.
The fundraising initiative also seeks to encourage greater collaboration between government institutions, the private sector and the wider community in supporting healthcare programmes that benefit vulnerable patients.
A large number of distinguished golfers participated in the launch, demonstrating strong backing for the Trust’s mission to improve the quality of life of individuals requiring long-term medical care.
Their involvement underscored the increasing role that charitable sporting events are playing in mobilising financial support for critical health interventions.
Palliative care remains an important aspect of healthcare, focusing on relieving pain, managing symptoms and providing physical, emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
For years, the Ndimoyo Palliative Care Trust has complemented Malawi’s public health system by delivering specialised care to patients whose conditions require ongoing medical attention and compassionate support.
With this year’s fundraising campaign now underway, the Trust hopes to secure the financial resources necessary to expand its services and ensure that more Malawians have access to the medicines, equipment and care needed to live with dignity despite serious illness.
