Telecel Joins Race for TalkTalk’s Wholesale Division
Telecel Group is among several bidders competing to acquire the wholesale telecommunications business of TalkTalk Telecom Group, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Africa-focused telecommunications company has submitted an offer for PlatformX Communications (PXC), TalkTalk’s wholesale division, sources said.
TalkTalk, a UK broadband provider, has been reviewing strategic options for both its consumer and business-to-business operations following the completion of a major financial restructuring.
Private equity firm Epiris has partnered with PXC Executive Chairman Tom O’Hagan in a separate bid for the wholesale business. Investment firm Octopus Investments has also expressed interest, with offers reportedly valuing PXC at several hundred million pounds.
Separately, Vodafone Group Plc has submitted a bid for TalkTalk’s consumer business, according to reports.
Sources cautioned that discussions are still ongoing and may not necessarily result in a transaction.
Representatives for both Telecel Group and TalkTalk declined to comment on the matter.
TalkTalk has faced increasing competition in the UK telecommunications market from new providers offering high-speed internet services. In 2024, the company separated its wholesale and consumer operations into standalone businesses as part of efforts to attract fresh investment and strengthen its financial position.
