The Mulhako Wa Alhomwe cultural grouping will on Saturday host a fundraising dinner and officially launch its website during an event in Lilongwe aimed at supporting both its cultural activities and community welfare programmes.

Central Region Chairperson Prosper Mopiwa said preparations for the event are nearly complete, with organisers confident of a successful function.

“We are almost 90 percent ready, and everything is on course for a successful event,” said Mopiwa.

He said the organisation hopes to raise K280 million through ticket sales and donations from well-wishers.

Four ticket categories have been introduced, with standard tickets selling at K250,000, gold tickets at K350,000 and platinum tickets at K1 million. Mopiwa also encouraged those unable to attend to support the initiative by making contributions through the organisation’s bank account.

According to Mopiwa, half of the money raised will support the annual Mulhako Wa Alhomwe cultural festival held at Chonde in Mulanje, while the remaining funds will be used to assist elderly and sick Lomwe people across the country.

The assistance will include the provision of blankets, mattresses and medical support to vulnerable members of the Lomwe community.

Mopiwa further said several companies have already confirmed their participation and will use the event to showcase their products and services, while urging more businesses to partner with the organisation.

The dinner will feature traditional Lomwe dances, cultural cuisine, poetry and live music performances. Cabinet ministers, business leaders and other distinguished guests are expected to attend.
