Military, City Council Partner to Transform Lilongwe Roads

The Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has partnered with the (MDF) to implement a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving roads, bridges, and overall urban maintenance in the capital.

The two-year collaboration will be funded through the (RFA), with the MDF’s Engineering Construction Company Limited (ECCL) tasked with executing key projects.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, LCC Chief Executive Officer said the initiative will focus on easing congestion and improving mobility. Among the priority developments are the construction of the Area 47 Lingadzi Bridge and the upgrading of the road to Area 49.

The project will also include expansion works along the busy stretch from City Centre Roundabout to Kamuzu Palace, one of Lilongwe’s most critical routes.

MDF Commander General expressed confidence in the partnership, noting that ECCL has the technical capacity and experience to deliver quality infrastructure within set timelines.

“The ECCL is fully prepared to deliver and make a meaningful contribution to the city’s development,” said Jafu.

The RFA has allocated K15.5 billion towards road rehabilitation and urban infrastructure improvements, with expectations that the partnership will accelerate progress and deliver lasting results for residents.
