CRASA Pushes for Harmonised ICT Regulations in SADC

The Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) has called on SADC member states to align their regulatory frameworks to keep pace with rapid changes in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

Speaking in Lilongwe during the opening of the 15th CRASA Annual General Meeting and the G5 Regulatory Collaboration Summit, acting Executive Secretary Brian Mwansa said harmonised regulations are critical in addressing emerging challenges in areas such as satellite technology, e-commerce and cybercrime.

Mwansa noted that the fast-evolving digital landscape demands a coordinated regional approach to ensure effective oversight and improved service delivery across borders.

Minister of Information, , reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to advancing digital transformation and strengthening regulatory frameworks.

He described CRASA as a vital platform that enables regulators to share knowledge, coordinate efforts and present a unified voice on both regional and global ICT matters.

CRASA operates as an implementing agency of the (SADC), supporting the bloc’s regional integration agenda through the harmonisation of ICT regulations.
