State Vice President Dr Jane Ansah today joined Members of Parliament and dignitaries at the State Opening of Parliament, where His Excellency, Arthur Peter Mutharika delivered the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA).

In her remarks following the address, Dr Ansah said the President’s speech clearly outlined the progress government has made in stabilising Malawi’s economy and the decisive measures being implemented to steer the country toward recovery and sustainable growth.

She noted that the administration has prioritised restoring food security, ensuring affordable access to fertiliser, expanding energy generation, and strengthening local development through an increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“The direction is clear placing Malawians at the centre of development,” she said.

Dr Ansah also highlighted key social interventions, including improvements in healthcare services and the introduction of free secondary education, describing them as transformative steps aimed at expanding opportunity and reducing inequality.

She said the President’s strong commitment to good governance, fiscal discipline, decentralisation, youth and women empowerment, and a zero-tolerance stance on corruption sends a powerful message that Malawi is on a new path.

“As Vice President, I remain fully committed to supporting the President’s agenda and ensuring that the promises made translate into tangible improvements in the lives of our people,” she said.

Dr Ansah emphasised that unity and collective action will be critical in achieving the country’s recovery goals.

“Together, we will rebuild. Together, we will recover. Together, we will deliver,” she declared.
