Vice President Jane Ansah Joins Thousands at Maseko Ngoni Cultural Festival
NTCHEU — Malawi’s Vice President, Right Honourable Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah, yesterday joined thousands of people at the 2026 Umhlangano wa Maseko Ngoni cultural festival in Ntcheu District as the annual celebration reached its climax.
Dr Ansah arrived at the Gomani Chikuse Memorial Grounds in Nkolimbo Village after first visiting the residence of Ngwenyama Gomani V.
Upon arrival at the festival, Dr Ansah, who is also known by the Ngoni traditional title Impi, proceeded to the main platform where she exchanged greetings with Ngwenyama Gomani V and Inkosi M’mbelwa V.
Her presence added prominence to the closing activities, which brought together traditional leaders, cultural groups, community members and visitors from different parts of Malawi and beyond.
The Umhlangano wa Maseko Ngoni is an annual cultural gathering that celebrates and promotes Maseko Ngoni traditions, customs and heritage.
This year’s festival was held under the theme “Ubunye Bunamandla,” meaning “Unity is Strength.” The celebrations featured traditional dances, cultural performances and other activities showcasing the rich heritage of the Maseko Ngoni people.
The festival has also continued to grow as an important cultural tourism attraction, drawing visitors from across Malawi and other countries.
The conclusion of the 2026 festival in Ntcheu provided an opportunity to celebrate Malawi’s cultural diversity while strengthening efforts to preserve and pass on Maseko Ngoni heritage to future generations.
