UTM Welcomes Aaron Chambo, Former MCP/DPP Member, in Mulanje Central Constituency
Renowned movie actor and politician Aaron Chambo, from Mulanje Central Constituency, has officially joined the UTM Party.
The welcoming ceremony took place on Saturday at Mtenjera Ground in Mulanje. UTM Vice President for the South, Richard Makondi—who is also the Shadow Member of Parliament for Blantyre Chilomoni-Kabula Nancholi Constituency—reaffirmed that UTM remains open to all Malawians who wish to contribute to the country’s development.
“We have, with open hearts, welcomed Mr. Aaron Chambo to UTM. I would like to take this opportunity to convey a message to the public that our party, under the leadership of Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, has opened its doors to those who want to join and serve the people of Malawi,” said Hon. Makondi.
Chambo, a film producer, writer, editor, and actor from Kachingwe Village, Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje, is well-known for his work in Malawi’s film industry. His productions include The Pregnant Man, My Mum, and The Fruit of Sin.
He previously served as an MP under the MCP banner in 2019 and later joined the DPP in 2022. Chambo cited a lack of internal democracy in both parties as his reason for leaving.
“The leadership of UTM under Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and the party’s strong democratic values inspired me to join. Other political parties lack internal democracy,” Chambo explained.
The event was graced by several notable figures, including UTM Presidential Advisor Hon. Patricia Kaliati, Regional Governor for the South Hon. Kamboyi, traditional leaders, and other senior party officials.
