TNM appoint new CEO
The Telecommunications Services provider, Telecom Networks Malawi (TNM) has announced that a Canadian engineer, Michel Hebert has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for the Company.
According to the statement by the TNM Plc Chairperson, Ted Sauti-Phiri, Herbert’s appointment is effective from 15th March as he has replaced Acting Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Lloyd Gowera.
Sauti-Phiri said Herbert’s experience will help to improve the operations of the Company as he has already worked with high-profile mobile telecommunications such as AT Kearney, SK Telecom, Motorola among others.
“His leadership as either the CEO has transformed organisations, delivered growth and opened new markets for well-known telecom companies such as Orange (Egypt), Ooredoo (Tunisia), Djezzy (Algeria), Comium (Cote D’Ivoire), Digicel (Papua New Guinea).
“Most recently, Michel has built, transformed and improved technology-led businesses at Sudatel Group (Sudan) in 4G LTE Advanced, Data Centres, Mobile Financial Services and fibre optics deployments, gaining new market share, and doubling revenues and profits,” he said.
Sauti-Phiri said Michel has driven construction of thousands of kilometres of fibre for a massive new national infrastructure for Liquid in DR Congo.
“This opened new wholesale and home businesses which quickly dominated the Congolese Internet markets, tripling revenues and profits in less than three years,” said Sauti-Phiri.
The new CEO is an electrical engineer who earned his bachelor of science from Canada’s University of Waterloo and MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business (USA).
Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) PLC, Company number 4029 was the pioneer mobile network in Malawi and it is listed on the Malawi stock exchange.
TNM is wholly Malawian owned with the following shareholders; Press Corporation Limited 41.31%, Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (Mw) Limited 24.07%, Magni Holdings Limited 5.01%, NICO Life Insurance Company Limited 4.88%, Livingstone Holdings Ltd 1.87%, Magetsi Pension Fund 1.488%, Unilogy Holdings Limited 1.26%, Investment Alliance Limited, 1.034% among the top ten shareholders TNM is listed on the Malawi stock exchange and its strength comes from being the first local mobile operator.
