Three arrested for stealing from lodge in Nkhata Bay
Three people are in police custody at Nkhata Bay Police Station for allegedly breaking into Chikale Beach Resort and went away with assorted property worthy over K4,000,000.00.
The suspects who allegedly broke into the rooms at Chikale Beach Resort have been identified as Luka Jere aged 41, Kennedy Mvula aged 32, both from Nkhanizamowa Village and Augustine Phiri aged 23 of Simon Village, all from Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba District.
According to the lodge manageress Josophine Iman Chinyama, on July 12, 2023 after knocking-off from her work during the night, she received a phone call from a well-wisher informing her that some rooms at the resort are open.
As she went to check, she realized that four rooms were broken into by unknown suspects who went away with assorted items such as two Telefanken Plasmas, four blankets, min fridge, four mattresses and other items all valued at K4, 347,500.00.
Upon reporting the matter to Nkhata Bay Police Station, investigations were immediately launched, leading to the arrest of the three suspects on July 13, 2023 who have been charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony therein. The suspects led the Police Officers to places where they sold the items for recovery.
They will appear before court soon after preparation of case files.
Meanwhile, police in the district are encouraging people to keep on providing the police with such information that can help in pinning down other suspects who are committing similar or other offences in their vicinities.
