Tactical Skills Shine as Taekwondo Takes Centre Stage at MDF Sports Festival

As the third day of the Sports Festival got underway, the took the opportunity to showcase tactical skills, discipline, and fighting techniques through thrilling Taekwondo contests among army teams.

The matches displayed important elements of Taekwondo such as speed, timing, counter attacks, defensive awareness, ring control, and combination kicking techniques, with athletes showing great determination and discipline throughout the competition.

“The competition is helping athletes sharpen their tactical understanding and build confidence for bigger stages ahead.”

Engineers Battalion and Parachute Battalion dominated most of the contests, impressing spectators with their coordination, quick movement, and tactical approach inside the ring.

Association President Major Louis Msukwa said the Malawi Defence Force Sports Festival is important in helping the association identify talented athletes with the skills and mental strength needed to represent the nation in both local and international competitions.

He added that the competition is also helping athletes improve their confidence, teamwork, and tactical awareness, which are key components in modern combat sports.

About 44 bouts from both men’s and women’s categories were played during the exciting Taekwondo showcase, attracting attention from sports lovers and military officials at the festival in Salima.
