Retirees Face Financial Struggles Due to Lack of Planning

Many pensioners struggle to sustain themselves financially within a year of retirement, with some facing challenges just months after receiving their lump sum.

According to Audrey Mwala, Managing Director of Sycamore Consult, this is largely due to retirees handling large amounts of money for the first time, leading to poor financial decisions.

Mwala highlighted this issue during a two-day retirement seminar in Blantyre, organized for National Bank members.

She emphasized that inadequate knowledge about retirement planning contributes to financial burdens in retirement.

National Bank Training Officer, Joyce Bonyonga, stressed the importance of such seminars in equipping employees with tools to secure their financial future.
