Phiri Assures Completion of Zomba Stadium

Minister of Local Government, , has assured the people of that government remains committed to completing the long-awaited Zomba Stadium.

Phiri made the remarks in Parliament on Tuesday in response to a question from , who sought clarity on when the project would be finalized.

In his response, Phiri said the ministry is focused on ensuring the stadium is completed to acceptable standards, stressing that the people of Zomba deserve a quality facility. He added that technical experts will be deployed to assess the current state of the project and recommend whether it should be handed over or require further resources to meet required standards.

“As a ministry, we are committed to completing the stadium and eventually handing it over to the council and the people of Zomba,” he said.

Phiri further indicated that his ministry will work closely with the Ministry of Sports and the (FAM) to determine the stadium’s readiness for use.

He emphasized that government’s priority is to deliver quality infrastructure rather than rush into completing a substandard facility that would waste public funds.

Meanwhile, raised concerns over the poor state of Mwanza Central Market and called for its modernization. Phiri advised that the issue be formally presented to the Mwanza District Council for assessment before seeking support from the ministry.

On the other hand, asked government to consider constructing a house for Senior Chief Mulembe. In response, Phiri said the administration of remains committed to supporting traditional leaders across the country, regardless of background, and pledged continued construction and rehabilitation of chiefs’ houses nationwide.

Several lawmakers also appealed to the ministry to support various development projects in their constituencies, including upgrading markets, building community grounds, and constructing stadiums.
