Peter Dimba resigns as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs, Peter Dimba who is a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South has with immediate effect left his post.
The resignation comes after President Chakwera’s decision to interdict the Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General Martha Chizuma.
In a resignation letter dated February 2, 2023 , Dimba said despite the gains the committee has registered in the time of his chairmanship, their efforts has proved futile.

“Our efforts to provide checks and balances to the excesses of the executive, particularly in the fight against corruption have proved futile, and as a leader, I take full responsibility for failing Malawians in this regard,” reads the letter addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Catherine Gotani Hara.
Peter Dimba has described the interdiction of ACB biss as a well choreographed script by the authorities.
Said Dimba: “We are shocked that our administration seems so determined to push the Malawi nation over the cliff. This whole drama sounds surreal considering the kind of leadership we have, and as the Bible says, ‘to whom much is given, much is expected.”
Dimba has served the post for 18 months.
