Parachute Battalion Crowned 2025 MDF Inter-Service Sports Festival Champions

Parachute Battalion has emerged victorious at the 2025 Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Inter-Service Sports Festival, claiming the championship title after days of intense competition held at the Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) in Salima.

The battalion showcased exceptional athleticism, teamwork, and discipline across various sporting disciplines, ultimately securing the top position ahead of Second Malawi Rifles (Kamuzu Barracks), who finished as runners-up. Third place went to Third Malawi Rifles (Moyale Barracks), who also put up a spirited performance throughout the festival.

As champions, Parachute Battalion walked away with a cash prize of K5 million, a reward that recognizes both their sporting excellence and commitment to physical fitness and discipline.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, MDF Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri hailed the festival as a resounding success. He emphasized the role of such events in promoting physical readiness, camaraderie, and talent identification within the armed forces.

“These sports festivals are not just about competition they help us scout for talent that can represent MDF and Malawi at national and even international levels,” said General Phiri.

“We want our athletes to give civilians a tough challenge. This platform also strengthens unity, builds friendships, and enhances collaboration among our troops.”

The Inter-Service Sports Festival is one of the key events on the MDF calendar, bringing together service members from different units to compete in sports such as football, netball, athletics, volleyball, and more. It also serves to reinforce discipline, morale, and healthy living within the military.

This year’s festival drew large crowds of both military and civilian spectators, further strengthening the bond between the MDF and the communities it serves.
