Northern Region DPP Members Disagree on Endorsement

Members in the former Governing Party Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) from northern region have denied the endorsement made by the party’s Vice President, Goodall Gondwe and the regional governor Christopher Mzomera Ngwira and others of former President Peter Mutharika for the 2025 polls.

During press briefing in Lilongwe, one of the members of the group Ken Msonda said the DPP northern bloc did not gather to make such kind of decisions.

He said that the decision made by Gondwe and others does not represent the views of all DPP members from northern region, but theirs alone.

According to MP of south Chitipa, Werani Chilenga, who is also Member of the DPP’s National Governing Committee, said that he is shocked with the announcement made yesterday.

The group said that they are not against former president contesting in the coming 2025 polls but they know Mutharika will not contest and that is why he allowed other candidates to express interest.
