Mzimba North MP Dr Catherine Mzumala Spends Night with Displaced Kasasile Residents in Solidarity
Member of Parliament for Mzimba North, Dr Catherine Mzumala, on Thursday night joined displaced residents from Kasasile Village in Nkhata Bay by spending the night with them at Kamalambo CCAP Church.
The families were displaced after being evicted from land occupied by the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and have since been left without permanent homes. Reverend Kamthunzi of Kamalambo CCAP Church has offered them temporary shelter.
Dr Mzumala said her decision to spend the night with the displaced families was a gesture of solidarity and support during their difficult time.
“In solidarity with the people of Kasasile, I am spending my night with them at Kamalambo CCAP Church where Rev Kamthunzi has offered them refuge,” she said.
The Kasasile residents have been seeking a lasting solution since they were displaced following the MDF eviction, with government officials recently indicating that efforts are underway to identify permanent land for their resettlement.
