Maranatha Schools ventures into healthcare with launch of Matete Medical Care

Maranatha Private Schools has diversified into the healthcare sector with the launch of Matete Medical Care, a new initiative aimed at providing affordable and accessible medical services while complementing government efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
Speaking to the media, Maranatha Private Schools Managing Director Ernest Kaonga said the institution, which has spent the past 20 years providing quality secondary education in Malawi, is now extending its services to the health sector.
Kaonga said the new healthcare venture reflects the institution’s commitment to serving communities beyond education by making quality medical care more accessible.
Matete Medical Care will officially open its first facilities this week in Machinjiri and Lunzu in Blantyre, as well as Mponela in Dowa District.
To mark the launch, Kaonga announced that medical consultations will be offered free of charge during the first week of operations, with patients only expected to pay for prescribed medication.
The introduction of Matete Medical Care comes as the government continues to encourage greater private sector participation in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
The initiative is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to expand access to quality and affordable healthcare, supporting Malawi’s drive towards achieving universal health coverage.
