Man arrested for Armed robbery

Police at Jenda in Mzimba District have arrested a 24-year-old man, Bonface Nkhoma on suspicion that he brutally hacked Masautso Mmora, motorcycle taxi operator and robbed his motorcycle at Gama-Kapopo area in the district.

It is alleged that the victim on June 6 2023 while at Embangweni Motorcycle Rank was hired by Nkhoma to drop him at Gama-Kapopo Kapopo area.

Upon arrival at the place, Nkhoma immediately jumped from the motorcycle, produced a panga knife from his bag and hacked the victim in the head and arms who consequently fell down unconsciously in a pool of blood and later the suspect fled the scene with the motorcycle.

However, upon seeing people coming from his direction following the shout by the rider, he changed the route and went into the nearby bush where he abandoned the motorcycle and escaped to an unknown destination.

Through intelligence gathering, police at Jenda managed to identify the suspect, information was shared to all police formations and Nkhoma was arrested by Linthipe 1 Police Post on June 18, 2023 in Dedza where he fled to.

Nkhoma has accepted to be the one who committed the offence. He has been charged with armed robbery contrary to Section 301 Sub Section 2 of the Penal Code and he will appear before court soon

Nkhoma hails from Mbidzi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwenye in Dedza District.
