Malawi Loses K1.2B Monthly to Fraud

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has revealed that Malawi loses 1.2 billion Malawian Kwacha every month because of mobile money fraud occuring in the country.

MACRA has disclosed this as the country is hosting its 11th edition of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Cyber Drill for the African region in the capital Lilongwe, bringing together various African countries.

MACRA Director General, Saudi Suleman said there are positive talks that the country is making in internet connectivity which is pleasant and as a way of improving ICT services a project has been embarked to improve the country’s internet in a two years period.

Commenting on the same, Minister of Information and Digitalization, Moses Kunkuyu, said government will continue undertaking various efforts in promoting security for internet users as Government takes digitalization as a turning point in transforming economies and adoption of the emerging technologies.

All African countries have been asked to create innovative ideas that can promote internet connectivity to transform the development landscape on the continent.
