Herbalist jailed 10 years for abducting, defiling two girls in Chitipa
The Chitipa First Grade Magistrate Court has on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 convicted and sentenced Manifesto Silwimba, 30, to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for abducting and defiling two girls of the same family in the district.
The court heard through state prosecutor, Sub Inspector Anock Fumbo that in November, 2021 the convict abducted two sisters aged 12 and 14 from their home, Mambwe Village in Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa District to Wiliro Trading Center in Karonga where he forcefully was sleeping with them as his wives for over four months.
Appearing before the court, Silwimba pleaded not guilty to counts of Abduction contravening section 78(1) of Child Protection and Justice Act of 2010 and defilement contrary to section 138(1) of Penal Code.
This prompted the state to parade four witness who proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In his submission, Sub Inspector Anock Fumbo pleaded with the court for stiffer punishment citing that the convict violated the rights to education of the girls and the offences committed are serious in nature.
When passing the judgement, First Grade Magistrate Maston Phiri, concurred with the state and slapped Silwimba with 7 and 10 years imprisonment with hard labour and ruled that the sentences should run concurrently.
Silwimba hails from Mambwe Village in Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa District.
